Will we need to stay in the hospital after Cleft Palate Repair surgery?

So after our cleft lip surgeries, most patients go home the same day, but then after the cleft palate surgery, I like to keep patients at least for one night. Most patients do go home after one night, once the baby is feeding well again, pain looks to be well-controlled, and we’re confident that once you go home, you stay home. We don’t want you getting dehydrated, falling behind on calories or hydration and having to come back to the hospital. And so while most patients go home that next day, some patients stay two, three, even four nights. It’s just whatever is safest and best for the baby.
